Recital privacy policy
Last updated: August 7, 2026
Recital helps solo music teachers manage lessons, attendance, notes, and billing. Recital has no server. There is no analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind. Studio, student, and billing records are stored on your device and sync only through your own private iCloud account when available.
What data Recital collects
Recital collects only the information entered to run a studio:
- Studio information — studio name, currency, invoice numbering, and cancellation policy
- Student information — names, instruments, lesson notes, practice assignments, and any photo added
- Family/payer information — names, phone numbers, and email addresses entered for billing
- Scheduling and billing records — lesson times, attendance history, charges, and payments
This information is entered by the user and stored locally. It is not collected by the developer.
Where data is stored
- On-device, in a local database, always.
- In the user's personal iCloud account, if iCloud sync is available and enabled, using Apple's CloudKit private database. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest, tied to the user's Apple ID, and not accessible to the developer.
Data synced across devices passes directly through the user's iCloud account — never through a server operated by the developer.
Permissions Recital requests
- Calendar — writes lessons into a dedicated "Recital" calendar. Existing calendars and events are never read.
- Contacts — Apple's built-in contact picker can be used to fill in a student's name. Only the single contact selected is shared with the app; broad address book access is never granted.
- Photos — Apple's built-in photo picker can be used to add a student photo. Only the specific photo selected is shared with the app.
- Notifications — used for local reminders scheduled on-device (next-lesson reminders, a morning digest, unmarked-attendance nudges). There is no push notification server.
What Recital does not do
- No analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs. No third-party libraries are included in the app.
- No tracking across apps or websites.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of data with third parties.
- No user accounts, logins, or developer-run servers.
Payments and subscriptions
Recital Pro subscriptions are purchased and managed through Apple's App Store (StoreKit). Payment details are handled entirely by Apple. Subscriptions can be viewed, changed, or canceled anytime in Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Children's privacy
Recital is a business tool for adult music teachers and is not directed at children. Student names entered into Recital are business records kept by the teacher for studio management, in the same way a paper attendance sheet would be. Recital does not collect information directly from children.
Data control
- Students, families, and lessons can be edited or deleted anytime within the app.
- A student roster can be exported to CSV anytime from Settings.
- Deleting the app removes local data from that device. iCloud-synced data can be removed separately via Settings → [Apple ID] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
